Text: Joshua 2: 1- End
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thought”——Isaiah 55: 8-9
The choice of Rahab, the prostitute; yes the prostitute over so many other women in the Land of Jericho contradicts all human standards of selection especially for such an important task. Could God not have found any dignified woman in the whole of Jericho?
Why this woman of easy virtue?
The answer to this is only summed up in the mystery called God. His grace looks beyond our reproach.
Don Moen, a gospel artiste describes this God as full of mercy that He is able to look beyond our weaknesses and find purest gold in miry clay, making sinners into saints.
Several reasons abound why God should not have used this woman:
1. She was a Cannanite, an enemy of God’s beloved Israel
2. She was a woman – Women in those days are regarded as second class
3. Finally, she was a professional Prostitute.
Yet with all these, God still chose her above likely dignified women in Jericho. It is best to conclude that God has an abundance of Grace than most people think.
Lessons:
1. God can work through anybody even the ordinary and the unlikely person
2. When we fail to view others through God’s standards, then there is that tendency within us to be quick to discard others for any useful purpose.
3. Others may not forgive you, or even tolerate you but be rest assured God accepts you; He’s full of Grace.
4. The church is not a home only for the saved, but one for sinners so that they also can be turned into saints just like Rahab.
